GEOfabrics provide the "snow" at Winter Olympics' opening & closing spectacles.
The BC Stadium is normally used for ice skating but, at the start & end of the 2010 Winter Olympics, it provided the backdrop to the spectacular scenes that have become part of the modern event.
To allow athletes, artists & show structures to be raised up, via five doors, into sight by the audience, a raised timber stage was constructed at a height that would allow access beneath by vehicles. This was then carpeted with a snow-coloured, fire retardent version of HPS9. This, covered with a layer of artificial snow, provided a robust basis for the peripheral seating & the extravaganza.
Athletes were also glad to see HPS9 offcuts at the end of the Skeleton run where the lengths were repeatedly folded to form a soft "landing" for the sleighs.
