	Horncliffe Landfill (28/01/05) This site, on the side of a hill in Lancashire, was the first landfill in the UK to deploy a geotextile protector. It was built "downstream" of an old dilute and disperse site and therefore was double lined.

	Kendal Fell Landfill (28/01/05) This landfill in Cumbria is the first vertical-lined site in the UK. The quarry wall was faced with a structure comprising membrane, with geotextile protection, "hung" in the void between two gabion walls.
